The overarching theme of the EP, ocular, is the impressions that I had when I was in Florida with my wife in the summer of 2018. For me, Florida is a incredible display of opposites. it's beautiful, pristine nature, it's absolutely rampant urbanization. It's the destruction of ancient wetland, for the construction of, of all things, animal conservation facilities. The contrast between the natural and the artificial was never as obvious as when flying into Miami. The stark line between the grid of lights marking the city, and the absolute blackness of the wild beyond, stuck in me.

And that's what the theme of the entire EP became. That's what Astral is. Astral is me looking out of the airplane window at this grid of lights against the black nothingness. It's a short, 2 minute intro which sets the melodic theme of the whole EP - in fact there's a 'theme melody' for the EP which we keep coming back to across the songs. The arrangement and soundscape set the stage and put you in a mood, into which Invective crashes shortly after.
